Shawn Osborn

Family and friends of Shawn Osborn are raising money to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with his Catastrophic Illness.

Shawn has been suffering the effects of Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar Depression for five years. He experiences sickening feelings of dread and anxiety, with very little relief, all day, every day. It makes it very difficult to work, socialize, or even be alive.

Mental illness is an invisible disability that has no cure. It can only be managed. Shawn has tried more than a dozen different medications, all with no lasting effect. He has tried experimental treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and nasal esketamine, but neither made a difference. Shawn has been determined to be treatment resistant.

He is currently receiving Electro-convulsive Therapy (ECT) as a last resort. It requires him to be in Anchorage, Alaska, for six weeks. Anchorage is 350 miles away from our home in Fairbanks, so we have to maintain a temporary residence there. We are hoping for help to replace his income while he is not working, and for help with the extra living expenses plus travel for follow-up ECT treatments.

Shawn has been a hard-working, caring, loving, husband and dad to three wonderful children. We hope ECT treatment will reduce or eliminate the symptoms of his debilitating depression. He is also starting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to get help with his anxiety and bipolar symptoms.
