Our mother, Shawna Stearns has battled pulmonary hypertension for 13 going on 14 years now. For most of our lives, my sisters and I haven’t had a chance to fully experience life with our mom. We grew up with constant hospital trips, where we never knew when it was going to happen next. Outside of the hospital trips, Shawna lives off of an oxygen tank 24/7 which really slows her down with simple tasks like grocery shopping, getting the mail and taking a shower.

Our mom has a central line that runs from a pack of medication directly to her heart. This pack of medication needs to stay on her at all times and cannot get wet at all which has been the hardest part of all of this because for 13 years, all she’s ever wanted to do is go swimming and go enjoy the beach with her daughters. Her biggest dream is to live long enough to experience her daughters getting married and having babies so she can have her first grandbabies.
