Please Help My Mother!

At 59 years old my mother, Sherita Justice Hargrove became ill and was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis after a lung biopsy. Now at 62 she is in need of a double lung transplant. Since December 2013 we have been traveling back and forth over 200 miles each way to Duke Transplant Center for evaluations, testing and consults.

My mom grew up in a family of eight children. She is a mother, grandmother and great grandmother who misses being active with her younger grandchildren the way she was with the older ones. But she still very much enjoys spending quality time with them. She also misses being a Lay Speaker at church, being a Sunday school teacher, leading bible study, singing in the choir and participating in various ministries. She dreams of returning to good health so that she can once again be an active participant in her family and her church.

While mom has a wonderful support group of family and friends, she is not financially able to pay the many medical expenses that her insurance does not cover, such as co-pays and anti-rejection medications. She already has traveling and lodging expenses not covered by her insurance as she is seen in the transplant center every three months. When the time comes for her transplant, she will have to relocate for approximately six months, which includes time for mandatory pulmonary rehab before and after transplant.
