Shirley needs your support

About 8 years ago, Shirley was diagnosed with diabetes. Over the years, this disease has caused a progressive deterioration of her overall health including partial vision loss. In March, Shirley was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Failure.

Just to survive, she undergoes dialysis 3 times a week. In June ’09, Shirley was evaluated and deemed a candidate for a life-saving kidney transplant. She has been blessed with a living donor (a community person); the transplant is currently scheduled for December at Baylor University Medical Center/Dallas Transplant Institute. Until then, Shirley continues her dialysis treatments and medications. As a devoted wife, loving mother of 2, sister and aunt, Shirley’s determination to live is inspiring.

Shirley needs your support. She is a native resident of Midland, TX and a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. Shirley is a retired bus driver and registered nurse. As an avid volunteer for her community, not only on the local level, but also on the state and national levels, she has served her community on many boards and committees, such as: The City of Midland Parks and Recreation Committee, the Red Cross, Girl Scouts, civic and social clubs, education organizations, and the Midland Citizens Police Academy. Shirley is an advocate for great public schools and is concerned for children and educators. She has also served on the following boards: the National Educational Association, the Texas State Teachers Association and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Shirley wants to continue her community efforts and she can with your prayers and support.

Due to the extraordinary expense of transplantation, funding this life-saving operation is a monumental task. Even with medical insurance, there are numerous uninsured medically related expenses, such as healthcare deductibles, co-pays and immunosuppressant medications. This presents a challenge the Howard family cannot meet alone.

To help offset Shirley’s uninsured medical expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established in her honor with Help Hope Live. Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 40 years. All contributions are administered by Help Hope Live exclusively for uninsured transplant related expenses. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Won’t you please help Shirley?
