Sidney Schmid

Sidney George was born on the morning of Valentines Day 2022 by emergency cesarean after complications during labor. Life saving measures were performed after Sidney endured hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) – a limitation of oxygen and blood flow causing traumatic brain injury. Uncertainty mounted once we realized his doctors could not confirm whether Sidney would be as healthy as we expected, or even be able to one day walk or talk. Our lives were changed forever. At 10 months old, Sidney was officially diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy with an emphasis on fine and gross motor delays.

4 years old now, Sidney is a bright and happy boy who loves music, nature and watching monster trucks! Oral motor delays have affected his ability to speak (and eat certain foods) but that doesn’t keep him from singing the notes of his favorite songs or chatting with relatives via FaceTime. ‘Hollywood Sidders’ as some call him, is a true star that shines brightly upon everyone he meets. Just try not to smile when he says, “hi!”

Although we are still working diligently on sitting-up unassisted and self-feeding, he has made tremendous strides in his gait trainer walker which has allowed us the ability to attend an outdoors nature preschool. The freedom to roam with his classmates has been monumental to his confidence. None of which would’ve been possible without the months of physical, occupational, feeding, aquatic and speech therapy that aided in the complex process.

Our goal is to continue fortifying his development with new and innovative, yet noninvasive therapies. It is our sincere hope that you consider donating to Help Hope Live in Sidney George’s honor to help us cover the cost of this next therapy initiatives in Iowa this summer 2026.

At too young of an age, he was required to work physically and mentally harder than most for the simplest of tasks yet we have only witnessed him persevere through each challenge with such pride and determination. We as his parents are committed to supporting him through each and every step and are thankful for everyone who has been a part of Sid’s journey thus far.
