Stephanie Needs Our Help!

Stephanie Ford was taken by ambulance to Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL on November 13, 2014. She was very confused, disoriented, and had absolutely no idea what was going on around her. After many tests and two weeks in the hospital, Stephanie slipped into a semi coma, a mild comatose state. She was finally assigned a wonderful neurologist who properly diagnosed her with herpes type A (the strand that causes fever blisters) and encephalitis (inflammation around her brain). Stephanie was on life support for four days in the ICU where she fought hard for her life!

Gradually Stephanie was weaned off the vent until she was able to fully breathe on her own however she remains on oxygen to this day. After about two weeks, Stephanie began to awaken. It was then that we learned she was brain injured unable to speak, walk, or function normally. After a long six and a half weeks she was discharged and transferred to a local rehabilitation facility on December 22. She is receiving speech, physical, and occupational therapy daily and each day brings small but meaningful progress.

Though Stephanie does have insurance, it only covers a portion of her medical expenses. Her stay at the rehab facility is paid in full for days 1-20. After day 20 her insurance coverage drops to 80%, leaving her and her husband responsible for the other 20%. This treatment is expensive but essential to her recovery. The cost is $157.50 per day out-of-pocket so to pay for just the remainder of January’s rehab, she will be responsible for $3,307.50. This is a challenge Stephanie cannot face alone; she needs our help!
