Second chances: If you were offered a second chance at living a healthy life, would you embrace it? I have and I’m hoping you will support me in my journey.

My name is Stephanie Sandelier, a 62-year-old Sanford, FL resident, born in Augsburg, Germany on an army base then raised in south Florida before moving to Gainesville 42 years ago to raise my family. I am the proud mother of three grown children: Charity, Claudette and Joshua and grandmother of my beautiful 21-year-old granddaughter, Renae. My life was recently thrown into upheaval when doctors diagnosed me with emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). My condition has worsened to the point I now need a lung transplant to survive!

Fortunately, after extensive testing, I recently learned I could qualify for a lung transplant however the cost is financially overwhelming. Even with insurance, there are out-of-pocket expenses not covered which include relocation closer to the center, daily travel to physical therapy, 24-hour home healthcare during the first three months post-transplant and anti-rejection medications I will need to take for the rest of my life. I have been told it will cost me tens of thousands of dollars which is a challenge I cannot face on my own. I need your help.

To help with the financial burden of uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established in my honor with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund in honor of Stephanie Sandelier.
