Steph Needs Our Help!

I am writing this on behalf of my amazing sister, Stephanie Ware. Steph is a 32 year old mother and wife who is critically ill. Two years ago she was diagnosed with diastolic heart failure due to our family’s hereditary heart disease.

Steph has had her share of trials in life. She enlisted in the Navy right out of high school and while serving found out she had cancer. With treatment she was able to beat it. A couple of years later she gave birth to her son, Devon. He is the light of her life! Wanting to give her son a good life and to fulfill her dream job, Steph worked hard to become a veterinary technician. Over the years she has worked with many types of animals including mountain lions, bears and even gorillas. Steph’s battle with cancer wasn’t over and after a longer battle she beat it again! Shortly thereafter she married her best friend Jon who is the love of her life and a great step-father to Devon.

Steph’s heart condition is the same one that has taken the lives of many in our family including our father in August, 2013. Though our family has experienced both the joys and scares of a transplant, we are committed to seeing Steph through this journey. Her greatest hope is to see her 11 year old son graduate high school and to be there well into his adulthood. Anyone who has ever known Steph has always been amazed that she still has such a positive outlook on life and is such a fighter!

Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even though Steph has medical insurance there are many uninsured expenses such as her transplant medications (thousands of dollars every month for the rest of her life,) travel and lodging at Vanderbilt Hospital for up to four months after her transplant as well as many trips back for follow-up care.
