Stephen McAliley

Stephen McAliley is a 59-year-old who has been the Pastor to Children and Families at The Church at Godley Station for over 11 years. He has been married to his lovely bride, Kimberly, for over 33 years. He recently had to resign his position due to a Bilateral Lung Transplant. Stephen was suddenly admitted into the hospital on September 13, 2023. He received his new lungs on September 26th. He was released on December 18th and was hoping to return to work but due to the high risk of infection, Stephen’s doctors have informed him that he cannot return to work as the Pastor to Children and Families.

Stephen is fundraising for the cost of medical insurance; medications (the cost of which can be very high even with insurance); travel to and from his home in GA and Mayo in Jacksonville, FL; and the cost of copays and out of pocket expenses for procedures that monitor his lung health and adjust care as needed. The estimated cost of everything is approximately $30,000 and could be more if there are any setbacks.

Stephen finds great joy in ministering and working with families. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, loves playing video games with his son (who serves in Indonesia as a Director of Science at an English-speaking school), and loves both his daughters and not only his biological grandchildren but the many that call him, “Pastor Grandpa”. Stephen is very outgoing and loves to be around people, enjoying life with them, and being there to support them in their difficult times.

Stephen has had many complications post-transplant including infections and rejection episodes. He must drive two hours one way to Mayo several times every month for follow-up appointments and procedures to monitor his lung function. He is on over 18 medications and due to losing his position, may have a higher cost with health insurance premiums as well as starting over with out-of-pocket deductibles. He struggles with fatigue, sleeping, and the aches and pains from his body still healing from the surgery. Stephen has been devastated by the loss of his career which he enjoyed deeply.

Stephen hopes this will help him to continue in staying healthy as well as assist him with transitioning as he finds another way to continue ministering to others in ways that will not be such a great risk to his new lungs. He hopes to continue volunteering at the Savannah Baptist Center which offers services to the homeless and families in need.
