Dear Family and Friends,

We all want the opportunity to enjoy the simple things in life: walking the dog, enjoying a family picnic, racing our grandchildren down the street. These little things, however small they may be, are what make life worth living. Up until March 23rd, these essential activities were unavailable to my father, Stephen Sutton.

When my father was diagnosed with COPD and pulmonary hypertension in 2005, we knew it was all over. He could barely walk one block without gasping for air. He became confined by his oxygen tank, which he had to bear twenty-four hours a day. It felt as if overnight, his world became one small room with a tank of oxygen close-by.

My worst fear yet came in my sophomore year of high school, when doctors predicted that my father had two years to live. Yet, seven years and several doctor appointments later, he received the call of a lifetime – his lungs had arrived.

Now he can breathe. He is no longer just alive anymore; he is living. I get to have my daddy back, and it is the best feeling in the world. Never have I known a man with such insurmountable strength, strong will, and tunnel vision. I’m just overjoyed that his physical body can now reflect his true being. Unfortunately, someone had to lose his or her life in order for my father to get his back, and I am forever grateful for this gift. No amount of gratititude can account for the blessings committed by the donor and his/her family.

Now as he recovers in the hospital, making his big to-do list and prepping to be superman again, we must figure out how to cover his large medical expenses. I’m asking that you help me in this journey so that he can enjoy all the small things so many of us take for granted.With your help, my family can ensure that this gift is used in the best way possible.
