Here is Tamara’s story ⤵

We adopted Tamara at 6 days of age. She is our miracle baby, our answer to over ten years of prayer to begin our family. We truly believe she is a gift from God, given to us to provide her the opportunity to know and love God, and an answer to prayer to complete our family. Her birthmother chose us, knowing that we cared for and rehabilitated quail through a local wildlife organization. We were told that much of the decision in choosing us was due to knowing that since we cared for birds, we would be loving and caring of her daughter. We love Tamara with our whole hearts, and she is truly a blessing!

Tamara was exposed to drugs, alcohol and tobacco while being formed in the womb. These substances affected her development as an infant and newborn, continuing throughout her life to present. We have little information about her genetic history, but do know that many of her challenges in life have been rooted in the womb.

Tamara has been diagnosed with autism, a significant developmental delay, extreme migraines, seizures, sensory processing disorder, and cerebral palsy, which affects her walking and balance. She uses a walker or wheelchair at all times for stability and safety. She has an AAC device to aide in communication with others, especially in places that are new to her. She has many tools to help with emotional regulation and sensory processing.

Consistency and routine is important for Tamara to feel safe and comfortable in this world. She has many specialized therapies to help her body maintain strength, to regulate her emotions and sensory processing, and to provide adaptive dance and sports activities. Most of these therapies and activities are paid out of pocket by us.

Your donation will help us continue to provide these therapies and activities for Tamara on a consistent basis, without a lapse in treatment due to limited personal funds. They will also help us obtain specialized training for our new dog, Bailey, to become her service dog. Bailey will be trained to assist in public outings, provide pressure to aide in emotional regulation, and to keep her safe during seizures.

Autism is often called the “invisible disability”, because it can be difficult for others to understand how an autistic individual communicates and tries to process the world around them. Your donation will help Tamara continue to become all that she is, a beautiful, unique, young woman, with so much to offer to the world around her.
