Tate Rallo

Tate has been a fighter ever since he was born early at 33 weeks.

In the NICU is when he was diagnosed with multiple holes in his heart which would require open heart surgery down the road. After 6 weeks in the NICU, he was discharged home to grow bigger and stronger so that they could perform the surgery needed. Shortly after, he contracted his first cold which would eventually require him to be intubated and transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. He spent 1 month in the cardiac ICU and to our surprise, underwent his first open heart surgery to place a band to help decrease fluid flooding in his lungs because of the holes; he was still too little to perform the full closures safety. After being discharged home, it was in and out of the hospital because it was the peak of the sick season. Everytime he would get sick, we would end up in the hospital for at least 7 days.

On May 22nd, Tate underwent open heart for the second time in which they closed the three largest holes but left two small ones with the hope they will close eventually. They also took off the PA band and fixed a couple other issues. Since then, Tate has had post op complications with his heart rhythm and feeding issues. Again, spending time in and out of the hospital in order to manage and figure out what works for him.

Tate still has a long road ahead of him as his heart function is not improving as expected and he continues to have troubles with feeding. With that, his personality and spirits have not wavered. He still remains the happiest boy ever!
