Tatiana Needs Your Help

Tatiana A. Tagirova, a forty six year old single mother of one, is in desperate need of a kidney donor and kidney transplant.

In 1993, at age 20, she moved to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and a Master’s degree in Education from Cairn University in Pennsylvania. She went on to obtain her Ph.D. in Caribbean Literature at the University of Puerto Rico. For the past fifteen years she has been teaching college at the University of Puerto Rico, Elizabeth City State University, and College of the Albemarle in Manteo, North Carolina. She is also the author of two books and several scholarly articles. She is currently residing with her fifteen year old son, Ruperto, in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. While she is proud of her academic accomplishments, nothing can be compared to being a mom and her desire to live to see her son grow into a man.

Her father died from the same kidney disease that she has, polycystic kidney disease. Please help to create a different story for Tatiana and her son who plans to become a medical doctor and wants his mom to be there for him when he does this. At the moment Tatiana is not able to work at all due to her kidney failure. However, she hopes to find a donor to have a kidney transplant so she can return to normal life and a full-time job.

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Fortunately, she has been placed on the transplant waiting list with UNC at Chapel HIll. However, even with insurance, she is facing very high costs out-of-pocket including travel to and from the center, relocation closer to the hospital, food and a caregiver, copays and lab fees. This is a challenge she cannot meet on her own.

To help ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to help patients and families in need for 35 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Transplant Fund.
