Dear Family and Friends,
Many of you know our sister, Teresa Guiler. Teresa has lived in Summerfield, Ohio for most of her adult life and only left for a few years to live with our brother, Charlie Dotson, in Tennessee. After Charlie died in 2010, Teresa returned to Caldwell, Ohio to be near her children and grandchildren. She has a daughter, two sons, seven adorable grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

What you may not know is that over the years Teresa’s health has deteriorated. After numerous hospital visits and surgeries, Teresa was diagnosed with end stage COPD. This disease has caused life-threatening damage to her lungs. She is on oxygen 24 hours a day and we have been told by her doctors at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation that her only option is a life-saving lung transplant.

Not only is a transplant major surgery, it is also very expensive. Before Teresa is placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant, she has to come up with at least $6500. In addition, there will be many other expenses that are not covered by insurance and must be paid for out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles and pre and post – transplant evaluations. In addition Teresa will need to relocate to be near the hospital for at least 3 months following the surgery. She will also need to have a caregiver living with her during that time. As you can imagine, not many families have the resources to meet these overwhelming financial obligations. This is where your help is desperately needed.

In order to ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Teresa’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
