Family and friends of Thomas Scott are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Injury. Thomas has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Ten years ago, my husband Tom Scott survived a devastating work accident. He was electrocuted and lost one of his hands. Since then, he has fought every day to rebuild his life and maintain his independence.

But in recent years, Tom developed essential tremor, a neurological condition that causes uncontrollable shaking. For most people, tremors in one hand are hard enough—but imagine having only one hand and that hand trembles so severely that it’s nearly impossible to eat, get dressed, or perform daily tasks.

This fall, Tom has a chance to regain his independence through Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, a treatment that can dramatically reduce tremors. The procedure involves placing electrodes in the brain, connected to a small battery, to help control the tremors.

Tom is scheduled for two surgeries—September 11 and September 18, 2025.

We need to raise $3,600 to help with the cost of these surgeries and related expenses.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to giving Tom the chance to do the things many of us take for granted—eating a meal without help, buttoning a shirt, and enjoying life with more independence.
