Any time I mention my dad, the person I’m talking to smiles — because our dad is that guy. He’s a true gentleman who has battled Type 1 diabetes since he was 12 years old, yet somehow never stopped smiling. His connection with my mom, through 45 years of marriage, has been nothing short of life-saving. By the grace of God, and through my mom’s unwavering love, he has made it through more close calls than I can count.

My dad is the reason I became a nurse. He’s the reason my sister and I are who we are today. He is the best father and Papa we could ask for.

He has stared death in the face so many times, and every time God carried him through. Despite all the ups and downs, he’s always the life of the party. If he knows you, you probably have a nickname. And if you know him, you definitely know about “Rick Rudy” and the rouge. 🤣

But after decades of fighting, diabetes has finally taken a toll on his body. He has now started dialysis and needs help to get a transplant.

We are humbly asking for support — anything at all — knowing how hard life is for everyone right now. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every share, and every bit of love sent his way. Thank you, truly, for caring so much about my dad.

Family and friends of Tomas Vidaurreta are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant.
