Family and friends of Toran Spencer are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Injury.

Meet Toran Spencer, a 46-year-old father of five and a full-time student. On February 19th, 2021, Toran’s life took an unexpected turn when he became a victim of a gunshot wound. This incident left him a C5C6 quadriplegic and resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Doctors told him he would never walk again. However, Toran is determined to live a full and active life through consistent rehabilitation, advancements in technology, and exercise-based physical therapy.

Toran’s journey is a long one, with numerous out-of-pocket costs. Despite these challenges, he has been learning how to work around his difficulties. He cherishes spending time with his family and participating in activities with his grandchildren. His passion is to help people, and he strives to bring a positive attitude to any situation or conversation. He is cheerful, helpful, and always tries to bring a smile to anyone he meets.
Since his accident, Toran has had two heart attacks and three strokes due to infections and lack of care. He has been in and out of the emergency room for the past two years, with extensive stays in the hospital. Due to a lack of physical therapy, he has severe inflammation, bone density issues, and swelling in his legs and arms.

Toran is in need of a medical bed, an electric Hoyer lift, and exercise-based physical therapy to improve his quality of care and make it easier for his caregivers. He is looking to raise $15,000 that will cover the costs of exercise-based physical therapy, an electric Hoyer lift, and a medical bed. He believes that with some help, he can stabilize his health, finish school, start a new career, and help others to obtain independence who are in the same situation.
