Trois Clay

Family and friends of Trois Clay are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Troy has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Troy suffered his first heart attack, the widow maker, in 2010. Stents were placed but his heart function (EF) dropped to 26% at that time. He later received an internal pacemaker which helped his heart continue working. In 2015 he suffered another heart attack and was provided with an internal heart defibrillator/pacemaker. In 2018 he suffered another major heart attack and with all his internal organs shutting down he was near death. Thankfully he was transferred to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas where he received a Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) and was in the hospital from Thanksgiving just before New Year’s Day 2019. Troy was placed on the heart transplant list in 2023 and has been waiting for a heart since that time.

He has to travel to BUMC every few weeks for check-ups, sometimes including other invasive testing such as a heart catheterization every three months. He will need to be close to BUMC for checkups every few days for the first few months post-transplant, moving out to weekly, then bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly over a period of a couple of years to ensure non-rejection of the organ. This will require high deductible and copay expenses, travel expenses, temporary housing (hotel or hospital-assisted rooming) post-transplant, and the cost of numerous anti-rejection and heart medications will be quite high.
