VICKY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORTThis is Vicky. Vicky is a mom, a wife, a grandmother, a sister, a friend, a community leader, a writer and a fighter. At the age of 72 Vicky was diagnosed with cirrhosis, a chronic condition that has not only taken away her quality of life, but is quickly threatening to take away her life. With the help of her amazing medical team, Vicky has taken all of the steps and is currently sitting on the national transplant list, waiting for her turn to receive a new-to-her-body liver. Vicky is more than her diagnosis of cirrhosis. She loves to sing, but rarely sings in front of others. She always has the most beautiful plants and gardens. She loves frogs, angels, sunflowers, chips and salsa, card games with her loved ones and every opportunity that she has to be silly. Her family photo albums and numerous storage bins are evidence that she has a deep love for holidays and family traditions. Vicky is known for caring for others. She is committed to serving her community and has done so in numerous capacities for most of her life. Vicky’s cirrhosis has had a profound effect on the way that she lives her life. Once vibrant and full of energy, Vicky now has to muster up every ounce of energy to complete what most of us would consider the easiest of tasks. Weekly trips to the hospital to get fluid drained from her body leave her exhausted, sore and weak. Regular conversation is even difficult for her and “normal” daily life has been out of the question for her as this disease has taken control of her body and left her depleted. We are grateful that Vicky has good insurance and that most of the actual surgery costs will be covered for her liver transplant, but there are so many other costs that are building up that her insurance does not cover – temporary housing costs, transportation costs to and from her doctors about 1.5 hours away, and medications to name a few. Vicky’s greatest loves in life are her grandchildren. She wants to be able to grow old and see them graduate high school, marry and have children of their own. Her life will change for the better through this campaign because it will allow her to remove some of the stress and worry associated with the dollar amounts that come with surgery and recovery so that she can focus more positive energy on resting and healing her body and not have to worry about the financial strain that comes with it. Please donate if you can, and please share through social media.
