Dear Family and Friends,

I am writing in honor of Wes Price, the husband of my dear friend, Jocelyn Price. As many of you know Wes, 30, suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury as a result of a plane crash on September 12, 2010 and is now a quadriplegic, with no use of his arms or legs (you can read more about Wes’s incredible story by visiting his CaringBridge website).

Wes, Jocelyn, and Ty (their new baby boy) have spent months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers and are now ready and eager to go home to Anchorage, Alaska. Before that can happen, they need a few things in place. The most necessary is a converted van that will allow them to get around.

Even with insurance, Wes will have many uninsured injury-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, rehabilitation therapy, home modifications, caregiver expenses, durable medical equipment and a modified van. Several family friends have already completed many necessary modifications to their townhome in Alaska in preparation for their return, but this will be temporary as they will need to sell it and find a place that is better suited for Wes’s needs. While Wes and Jocelyn are blessed to still be able to work, the uninsured expenses will present a financial challenge that we can assist with. Now that Wes is getting some movement back in his legs and feet, one special goal is to raise funds to go towards a FES bike. This specialized bike actively applies electrical stimulation to Wes’ leg muscles, allowing him to peddle and exercise his muscles.

With that said, I am very excited to announce that a fundraising campaign in Wes’ honor has been established with the Catastrophic Injury Program of HelpHOPELive. HelpHOPELive is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the transplant and catastrophic injury community for more than 28 years. One of the most incredible things about this organization (and the main reason why we chose to fundraise with them) is that as a nonprofit, HelpHOPELive provides both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. Donations are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
