Whitney Caffey

Family and friends of Whitney Caffey are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Whitney has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Hi, My name is Whitney, & I’m 43 years old. I had an active life prior to getting bilateral pneumonia, then getting a kidney biopsy due to blood clots to them, went septic and having to learn how to walk all over again to hemodialysis to now peritoneal dialysis. All due to an undiagnosed case of scleroderma. I had always tried to watch my diet and have an active life. I wasn’t on a lot of medications before my diagnosis but I was healthy. Thankfully, I’ve been approved for a kidney transplant and am currently waiting for a donor match to become available. 

There’s more to me than just my diagnosis. I’m a dog mom to 3, a daughter, sister, and a friend. I like bowling, fishing, going to the lake, and crocheting. Since I’m in Stage 5 Kidney Failure I have to cook my meals at home more so I can manage what goes into my food due to my diet restrictions. I struggle some days to stay asleep or fall asleep due to the muscle cramps in my hands, feet and legs. I get tired more easily now which is a struggle to do everyday things. 

That’s why I’m asking for your help. I’m raising funds to cover my medical expenses, travel and daily living expenses. After the transplant, I’ll need to stay close by my transplant team for 4-6 weeks. That means both housing and living expenses for me and my caregiver. I’ll also need to cover co-insurance for the surgery, and hope to offset costs for a living donor if one is found. The estimated cost is around $5,000, but that could double or triple if there are any complications.  

I’m hopeful that this kidney transplant will allow me to have a new start. I want to be able to return to work and have a normal life with my growing family and do fun things with my nieces and nephews. I’m ready to get back to the things I love to do.
