Many of you have known Barry for most, if not all, of your lives. For decades, he has been a constant presence in the Richmond community — a trusted friend, a familiar face, and someone who devoted much of his working life to raising charitable support for young men who otherwise might not have had access to opportunity. Barry has helped generations of students find their footing, their confidence, and their future.

In later years, Barry found companionship and partnership with Toni, and together they built a life marked by care, loyalty, and deep affection.

Today, it is Barry and Toni who need the support of the community Barry has spent a lifetime serving.

Toni is now living with advanced Alzheimer’s and requires full memory care. Her physicians have advised that she will need continuous, professional care. Barry, meanwhile, is facing serious health challenges of his own and now requires ongoing skilled nursing support. His medical outlook is hopeful, but his need for immediate long-term care is clear.

Like many people of their generation, Barry and Toni are now living primarily on Social Security income. The escalating costs of memory care and skilled nursing — particularly when required simultaneously — are far beyond what can be sustained on fixed income alone, and there are no remaining long-term savings available to meet these needs.

After careful consultation with physicians, care facilities, and elder-care professionals, we have determined that approximately $400,000 per person is required to secure appropriate long-term care placement. This amount allows each of them to establish the four-year private-pay threshold that enables transition into charitable care status at select facilities, ensuring they will not be displaced for the remainder of their lives.
