Willie Baber

Willie Baber is a 44-year-old husband and father from Los Angeles, CA and for the last seven years he has lived without a kidney. Because of the many medical procedures he has had, along with dialysis three times a week, his overall health has suffered and kidney function continues to decline. Willie has been informed that his only chance at a healthy life is to have a kidney transplant.

Even in his present condition, Willie continues to serve his community. In 2009 he received a letter of appreciation for outstanding service from the city of Los Angeles and council woman Jan Perry of the Ninth District for his efforts in feeding the homeless.

After seven years, Willie has finally been placed on the active transplant waiting list. Yet funding this procedure is extremely expensive. Even with insurance, he will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel to and from the transplant center and the costly anti-rejection medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life. These expenses add up to more than Willie and his family can handle.
