Willie’s Bio –

Willie is a devoted husband, father of four, grandfather to eighteen, and proud great-grandfather of six. He cherishes time with his family and finds joy in fishing, watching westerns, and playing Red Dead Redemption on his PlayStation. His favorite western stars are John Wayne and Clint Eastwood—icons who reflect his own grit and character.

A hardworking man, Willie spent many years doing hot tar roofing and was known for his skill in mechanical work. He was always ready to lend a hand—whether to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone who needed help with their vehicle. His generosity and work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone around him.

In 2017, Willie received a life-altering diagnosis: stage four kidney disease. Tests revealed his kidneys were smaller than normal, and major lifestyle changes were needed, including adjustments to his diet and fluid intake. He managed well until reaching stage five.

In 2021, Willie began experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath. His nephrologist referred him to a cardiologist, and what was expected to be a routine heart test turned into an emergency hospital admission. He underwent triple bypass open-heart surgery and began dialysis treatments shortly afterward. The surgery was successful, though recovery was tough—but Willie pulled through with determination. Dialysis became a regular part of his life, three times a week.

In 2022, Willie was offered the option to begin home hemodialysis. With his wife by his side, they began training in June. They told him it would be better for him at home because he would receive four treatments a week instead of just three. In August 2022, the in-home treatment equipment was installed. For the past three years, Willie has been receiving dialysis at home, which has brought more comfort and consistency to his care.

Kidney disease has deeply impacted Willie and his family, but his spirit remains strong. He is currently awaiting placement on the transplant list and looks forward to receiving a kidney transplant that will offer him a better quality of life and more time with the people he loves.
