Help Yalina Thrive!

This fundraiser is to help maintain Yalina’s independence. Yalina is 18 years old, diagnosed with Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy, Scoliosis, Asthma, Tachycardia, and Atrial Fibrillation as a result of a genetic mutation in the LMNA gene. She is indigenous and from Ojibwe tribe!

They are an advocate in our community with Lurie Children’s Hospital and the international children’s advisory network (ICAN). She use to foster underage kittens and now spends her time with animals. Their goals are to bridge the accessibility of service dogs and share resources on obtaining one with minorities. Yalina intends to study social work and psychology online! She has taken an interest in dog sports along with showing and hopes to participate in the near future.

Unfortunately a huge barrier is lack of accessibility. Having a large service dog make’s mitigation more challenging with a wheelchair. She was able to find a used Fold N Go wheelchair for $2,000 she is paying monthly for! Any donations will contribute towards the costs of a service animal and to assist paying off the wheelchair. A small service dog can help with psychiatric related tasks such as panic attacks, depression, anxiety, and PTSD from a major car accident they were in.
