Yusef Needs A Transplant And Needs Your Help

Yusef has been married for over 20 years and is a father of two beautiful young ladies. He is not only active in the church, volunteering his musical talents for the past 39 years but has been active in the community, coaching basketball, mentoring at risk and single parent children and performing as much community service with his family as possible. He is a giver. And now, for the first time in his life, Yusef and his family need us to give something to help them. Yusef desperately needs a kidney transplant and needs our financial support to make it happen.

In 2004, Yusef began experiencing multiple health issues. Besides the onset of kidney failure, he experienced a partially torn retina in his left eye, which multiple surgeries were unable to correct, leaving him blind in one eye. During this time, Yusef continued working and volunteering in the community. In January, 2013 Yusef was diagnosed with stage IV kidney failure, which in his own words was “a life changing event.”

Yusef began dialysis in April 2013 and has been going 3-4 times a week. The treatment has been very challenging, sometimes making him very sick or severely fatigued and at times he’s passed out. Enduring this has brought about bouts of depression and at times Yusef felt like giving up, but he pressed on. He draws his inspiration from his beautiful wife and two loving daughters, both of whom are honor students. His oldest daughter was on the Leavenworth High School basketball team that recently won two Kansas Class 5A State Championships. She is now a freshman with a full academic scholarship and she has also comitted to play basketball at Coffeyville Community College. (Go Red Ravens!)

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. The expenses that Yusef anticipates include costs associated with the kidney donor, copays, doctor visits, and a lifetime of anti-rejection medications.
