James has faced serious health and mental health challenges that have made everyday life much harder. At times, things like walking, leaving the house, eating and drinking regularly, managing anxiety, handling sensory overload, and coping with unexpected changes have been extremely difficult. James lives with autism, anxiety, trauma-related challenges, and medical conditions that affect his body, energy, and ability to feel safe in daily life. Because of everything he has been through, James’ world has become much smaller. Leaving the house can feel overwhelming. Appointments can be exhausting. New situations can trigger panic, shutdowns, or meltdowns. Even when he wants to do things, his body and nervous system often make it hard. James wants to participate in life, but right now he often needs support just to feel safe enough to try. A service dog could help James by providing grounding, emotional regulation, comfort during overwhelm, support during transitions, and confidence in public spaces. The dog could help him feel less alone and more able to leave the house, attend appointments, practice independence, and rebuild trust in his body and the world around him. With a service dog, James could have:

• support during appointments and transitions

• greater independence from constant adult support

• more ability to participate in community activities, volunteering, or dog training
