In November 2024, our dear friend Kala suffered a stroke that changed her life in an instant. Since then, her mom has lovingly cared for her at home in Mississippi and while that love has meant everything, Kala’s recovery has reached a plateau. It’s time for the next chapter.

This May, Kala is moving to the Centre for Neuro Skills in Irving, Texas, a world-class neurorehabilitation facility where she’ll receive intentional, 24/7 specialized care, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy multiple times a week. This is the breakthrough we’ve been hoping for.

Kala is still working through aphasia and limited strength and mobility on her right side, but if you know her, you know she is one of the most fiercely independent people you’ll ever meet. She is fighting every single day to get back to living life on her own terms and we are fighting right alongside her.
