This fundraiser page is for the double lung transplant expenses my mom will experience during her journey through this process.
She was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency, stage 4 COPD and chronic bronchitis over the last several years. During this time she had tried a countless number of treatments all of which were unable to help her maintain lung function. About a year ago she was shocked with the news of needing a double lung transplant. She has gone through the first and second round of testing and will complete the third round in February 2024. The drs are very confident that a double lung transplant is in her future. Without the surgery her quality of life and life expectancy are not great. During her transplant journey, she will need to stay in Pittsburgh for 1-3 months as well as have family caretakers stay in Pitt with her at all times. Housing, even at a discounted rate, is still very expensive as well as gas, food and medical necessity expenses including transplant medications and co-pays the insurance won’t cover.
During her first appointment it was advised that we begin the fundraising process right away. We put it on hold over the last year as she lost over 20lbs to be eligible to continue with the testing process. I am proud to say my mom worked very hard to lose the weight, exceed her goal and is eligible to continue on with the transplant process!
