Olivia and Colton Pelletier

Star and Larry Pelletier have spent their whole marriage doing one thing well: showing up for each other, and for their four kids, Colby, Caleb, Colton, and Olivia. They travel together, cook together, and weather everything together. Star works in early childhood education and has spent years pouring the same steady love into other people’s kids that she gives her own. Larry has spent decades building and servicing cell towers, the kind of guy who will hand you the shirt off his back before you finish asking.

This past month, that steadiness was tested in a way no parent is ready for.

On a Saturday morning, Star and Larry called from Boston, where they’d been referred for specialized care. In the same week, they learned that their daughter Olivia, nine years old and full of the kind of light that fills a room, has cancer. And their son Colton, seventeen, has a neurological condition causing seizures that medication can no longer control and that will likely require brain surgery.

Two children. Two diagnoses. One week.

Olivia had her chemo port placed on July 8th. Her treatment means trips to Boston every few days, for as long as it takes. Colton’s surgical team is still finalizing his plan, and in the meantime, his seizures continue. Star can no longer work, her full-time job now is getting her kids to and from Boston and staying beside them through treatment. Larry has dropped to part-time, just enough hours to hold onto the insurance the family depends on.

Before this family had even processed the news, they were already holding a $10,000 medical bill insurance won’t cover. That’s the first bill. It will not be the last.

This is where their community comes in.

We’re raising $250,000 to get the Pelletiers through the next year: medical costs, the constant travel to Boston, lost income while Star and Larry are consumed with caring for their kids, and the home modifications this family will need to make their house workable for two children recovering from major medical treatment.
