Help Pam get back to her purpose of helping others

My name is Pamela Green. I was diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) in 2013.  I first realized that I was sick when I was attending USC to obtain my masters in social work. I was having shortness of breath walking to and from my classes on campus. I went to my primary care doctor and he gave me the diagnosis. I went back to school and in the middle of my second semester I was told by my doctor that I needed to come home and manage my disease. That ended my educational endeavors at that time.  I had many emergency room visits, hospital stays, one of my flare ups led to a 30 day stay in the hospital with pleurisy and pneumonia. I am now on 4 liters of oxygen continuously. I am now in the process of doing everything my transplant team has instructed me to do in order for me to be placed on the transplant list. The last thing is to gain 13 more pounds.  I am almost there.  My next visit with my transplant team is in October 2026. I hope to be chosen to be on the transplant list at that time.

I was very active in my grandchildren’s sporting and school activities. I have a degree in Human Services and certifications in family counseling and intervention. I have been employed by 1 and volunteered with 2 non profits in my area and was a substitute teacher at my local elementary, middle and high schools. I currently advocate for those less fortunate, especially the elderly in my community. I love shopping at thrift stores.  I am what is called a thrifty. When my grandchildren were young, I would help my children with child care. I would always take them to the thrift stores with me. We found lots of treasures.  I also often advocated for the eldering by grocery shopping , helping fill out and submitting important papers, finding resources for those that needed extra help, transporting them to doctors’ appointments and picking up medication. Now because my energy level is low, I get short of breath easily, and I can’t be exposed to others often because of the risk of catching a cold which can put me in the hospital or even kill me. I can not go to the thrift stores, attend my grandchildren sporting events, school activities or work or volunteer at my local nonprofit.

Your donation would help me get back to my purpose of helping those who cannot help themselves. My lungs being able to sustain deep breaths that are full of advocating words, my feet to move swiftly when others can’t move for themselves and my heart to be happy is what this lung transplant will allow me to do.

I am fundraising for the cost of co-insurance for the surgery, and related expenses to my transplant . My team estimates this will cost about 7,000. This amount could double or triple if I experience any setbacks or complications.
