Payton Cosden needs a wheelchair accessible van

Family and friends of Payton Cosden are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a catastrophic illness. Payton has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Payton was born on August 30, 2012. It took a few years for us to realize that Payton had special needs. We started going to John’s Hopkins hospital almost immediately and he was diagnosed with polymicrogyria and cerebral palsy. Payton also required a feeding tube and has epilepsy.

Life for him recently has been better and even though he is non verbal and cant walk he still attends a public school and seems to really enjoy life outside of the house. Which brings us to the reason for this fundraiser.

We have a 2003 ford econoline van with a wheelchair lift on the side but it has over 200,000 miles on it. It doesnt run well and we have missed some recent appointments for doctors especially at John’s Hopkins because it is more than a 2 hour drive and if the van breaks down we worry about how to get Payton home safely as he requires his wheelchair to be transported.

We don’t need anything new, just something reliable. Whether we modify an existing vehicle or get a newer vehicle it seems the price is out of our reach. Any donations will be appreciated and we do have a dealership close to where we live that sells wheelchair accessible vehicles.
