Pierre Hicks

Hi everyone,

My name is Pierre Hicks in February 2024, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and since have had numerous dr appointments and days in hospital throughout 24-26; one of which July 2024 where the installed a Pacemaker/Defibrillator . Since then, my life has changed in ways I never could have imagined — physically, emotionally, and financially leading to me being put on Disability July 2024.

This journey has been overwhelming, and as the days have gone on, the challenges have only grown because of the strain on my heart over time, it has weakened to the point where it can no longer properly pump blood to my kidneys and other vital organs. As a result, my kidneys are now failing if I don’t fix the initial problem which is the HEART. 

On March 2, 2026, I was admitted to Good Shepherd Hospital and spent 17 days there. The doctors came in and said there was nothing else they could do for me that I could go home with a implanted iv drip in my arm and try to get a appointment with someone else but it wasn’t likely id even live to even make it to my 39th Birthday April 4th; on March 14, I also suffered a mini stroke, adding another layer of urgency and concern to my condition. Shortly after, on March 19, I was transferred to Baylor Scott and White Advanced Heart Center. 

Baylor team of cardiac doctors performed numerous test on my body, mental state, and questioning me to make sure I understood what exactly was taking place and what was about to start taking place. And the day came on March 24th the doctors came in with life-changing news: I will not be leaving the hospital without a transplant or getting my end of care options in order. I am currently on several iv meds going through a catheter in my neck directly to my heart which is the only thing now keeping me alive.

I am now facing a L-Vad transplant (mechanical pump on heart) to help bridge me to the day that I will have the actually transplant. Followed by an intense recovery process. I will be hospitalized and in outpatient care for approximately 2 months, requiring my family and me to temporarily relocate to Dallas during this time.

The financial burden is overwhelming. The transplant alone is estimated at $780 thousand and the actual heart implant $1.8 million, and while insurance helps, it does not cover everything. Funds raised will go directly towards:

Insurance Deductible 

Medical bills not covered by insurance

Medicine 

Temporary housing in Dallas 1-3 months

Transportation

Everyday living expenses during recovery

More than anything, I’m fighting to be here for my family.

I have two beautiful children — my daughter Shaelynn, 17, who I am so proud of and can’t wait to see graduate in May and continue her cheer career at TJC, and my son Brenden,15, who I look forward to watching him play baseball and grow into a strong polite young man.

My wife, Rachelle, has been my rock through all of this and best friend. I want nothing more than to grow old with her and continue building our life together.

And when I get through this, I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love — COOKING! Always has been my passion and help me get through my days seeing other people happy by having my food.
