My name is Roenni B. Smith. In April and May of this year, I was diagnosed with Lupus in addition to an advanced stage of lung disease. I have been seen by some of the most prestigious doctors at both Vanderbilt and Duke University hospital. After many procedures and tests, I have finally been approved for a double lung transplant that will take place at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

According to Duke’s team, before I can be placed on the transplant list, I must secure and provide proof that I have at least $15,000 to relocate to Durham, North Carolina for 6-7 months. This money will be used for housing, medical supplies, and other living expenses.

In addition to moving and living expenses, I also must secure two caregivers that can assist me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to a year. Thankfully I have two caregivers that have agreed to travel and stay with me; however, this will be their full-time job and I will have to compensate them. The $15,000 that Duke University is requiring will not cover the caregiver’s salary, therefore I am asking for an additional $35,000.

Since I have an advanced stage of lung disease, I need to have everything secured as soon as possible. I am working a full-time job from home, and I plan to continue working as long as I can. Unfortunately, I am unable to cover all the expenses needed, therefore I am humbly asking for your financial support.
