Roy Forerster Johnson

At 68 years old, Roy Johnson continues to face one of life’s greatest challenges with remarkable strength, resilience, and optimism.

After dedicating 35 years of service to General Motors, he looked forward to enjoying retirement with family and friends. However, in 2020, his life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with end-stage heart failure. The diagnosis brought significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges, requiring ongoing medical care and close monitoring.

As his heart condition progressed, his medical team determined that advanced treatment was necessary to sustain his life. In 2021, he received a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), a mechanical heart pump that helps his weakened heart circulate blood throughout his body. The LVAD has served as a lifesaving bridge to transplant, allowing him to continue living while awaiting a heart transplant.

Today, he is actively listed for a heart transplant through the Cleveland Clinic. To ensure immediate access to specialized care and readiness for a donor heart, he relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, near the transplant center. This necessary move created additional financial burdens, including temporary housing, transportation, medical expenses, and other costs not fully covered by insurance.

Despite the daily challenges he faces, he remains positive, prayerful, hopeful, and determined. His faith, perseverance, and appreciation for life continue to inspire those around him. He eagerly awaits the lifesaving call that a suitable donor heart has been located—a call that will offer him a second chance at life.

As he continues this journey, family, friends, and supporters are partnering with Help Hope Live to raise funds to help offset the significant out-of-pocket expenses associated with transplantation. Every contribution helps ease the financial strain and allows him to focus on what matters most: maintaining his health and preparing for the transplant that could transform his future.
