Family and friends of Samantha Laney are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Illness. Samantha has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

At 33 years old, I’m not asking for a luxury. I’m asking for the freedom to go somewhere without having to depend on someone else to take me.

Hi, I’m Samantha. I was born with spina bifida and use a wheelchair for mobility. I’ve spent my life adapting to challenges most people never have to think about.

Now I’m working toward something that could truly change my life: a wheelchair-accessible vehicle that I can drive myself.

Having accessible transportation would mean getting myself to doctor appointments and procedures, attending more craft shows for my small business, visiting family and friends, running errands, and even doing something as simple as deciding, “I want to go somewhere today,” and being able to go.

It’s not just about a vehicle.

It’s about independence. It’s about freedom. It’s about finally having the keys to more of my own life.
