Life has a way of changing in an instant.

What began as unexplained health concerns for Sarah in May 2025 led to months of testing, hospitalizations, and uncertainty. In November 2025, Sarah received the life-changing diagnosis of end-stage liver disease. Since then, Sarah and her family have faced the challenges that come with a serious illness while holding on to hope for a future liver transplant.

While Sarah is grateful to be on the transplant list, the waiting process is uncertain. It could be months or even years before a transplant becomes available, and during that time the disease will continue to progress. Because of her condition, Sarah is no longer able to work or drive and must rely on others for many of the things most of us take for granted.

Anyone who knows Sarah knows she has always been the first person to help someone in need. Sarah has spent her life putting others before herself, and asking for help does not come naturally to her. However, this journey is no longer affecting only Sarah—it is affecting her entire family, including her two young children.

When the call for a transplant comes, Sarah and her caregiver will need to relocate to Nebraska for approximately six to eight weeks during recovery. The costs associated with travel, lodging, meals, medical care, and time away from work will create a significant financial burden on a family already facing mounting medical expenses. In addition, the daily challenges of caring for two young children while managing a serious illness have made an already difficult situation even more challenging.
