2022 was the year that changed my life forever.

I was struggling to catch my breath and noticing how tired I was while doing normal tasks that had never bothered me before. I went to the hospital and was misdiagnosed with bronchitis. They noticed that my blood count was low and told me I needed a blood transfusion. This led them to the conclusion that my kidneys were failing.

I was transferred to Wayne Memorial Hospital and admitted to the dialysis center. There, I learned that I had pneumonia, fluid around my heart and lungs, and that I needed two more blood transfusions. I also learned that I no longer had any kidney function and would need to start dialysis immediately.

After a week, I was discharged and almost immediately started Peritoneal Dialysis, also known as PD. Throughout this journey, I have continued to raise my beautiful daughter, who is my biggest motivation to see this through.

My nights were filled with 10-hour treatments while I studied to complete my Associate’s degree in Business Administration. This diagnosis will not stop me from pursuing all that my future has in store.
