Hello!

My name is Skylar and I was born with FSGS causing me to be born with faulty kidneys. I lovingly received a kidney transplant from my mom at the age of 4. Unfortunately that kidney couldn’t last forever and two decades later at the age of 24, I’m experiencing kidney failure once again and am in need of another transplant. Due to kidney failure I’ve been severely anemic for years. This is in addition to the symptoms of terrible sleeping, trouble breathing, cramping, hypertension, and constant exhaustion. I started dialysis this past July after waking up being unable to breathe as my lungs were being compressed due to fluid buildup. I’m working with the transplant team at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin towards a new kidney. I’ve been evaluated and placed on the transplant list as of September. I’m actively waiting (and hoping!) for a living donor to be accepted to donate sooner though!

This campaign is to help me pay for the dialysis sessions and surgery expenses that my insurance won’t cover. I’ll also be out of work for two months during recovery and will need assistance with my bills. I have a little kitty at home who still needs to eat while I can’t work!

My life revolves around music; I work at two different venues in Milwaukee, collect records and CDs, and am always on the lookout for new music. I feel very lucky and honored to experience live performances so often and to help the music scene in this city. I’m also a barista and huge coffee lover. You may have seen me dancing at a concert or drinking at a cafe somewhere around town. I write poetry and create digital art in my free time along with playing tabletop games with my friends. My kidney failure has affected all of these aspects of my life and has taken up much of my free time.
