Steve B Cox

Steven “Steve” Cox was born in Lindsay, Oklahoma, but has called many places across Oklahoma home throughout his life. He eventually settled in the Chickasha area, where he raised his two daughters.  In 2006 he moved to the small town of Verden which he proudly calls home.

Steve’s journey with heart disease began at a very young age. At just 7 years old, he underwent his first heart surgery after being diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta valve. Despite the challenges he has faced throughout his life, Steve has continued to live with strength, faith, and an unwavering love for the people around him. 

In 2012, Steve underwent surgery to have a mechanical heart valve placed and in 2022, he received a pacemaker. He has since been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and on September 28, 2026, Steve was officially listed for a heart transplant.

But Steve’s story is about so much more than his heart condition.

Steve is a devoted father to his two daughters. He was also a loving husband to his late wife, Abbie. When Steve married Abbie, he didn’t simply become her husband.  He chose to love her four children as his own. To Steve, family has never been defined by blood alone.  

He is also a loving grandfather and a loyal friend. Steve is the kind of person who will help someone in need without expecting anything in return. He would give someone his last dollar if it meant helping them, and he has spent his life putting the needs of others before his own.

Most importantly, Steve is a man of deep faith. His relationship with God is at the center of who he is, and that faith has carried him through some of the most difficult moments of his life. Those who know Steve would describe him as kind, generous, and compassionate. He has touched countless lives simply by being the person he is.

Now, after nearly six decades of fighting for his heart, Steve is facing another chapter in his journey. He is waiting for the gift of a new heart and the opportunity to continue being a father, grandfather, friend, and the man of faith so many people love.

His heart may be tired, but his love for his family, his faith in God, and his desire to keep living are stronger than ever.

Thankfully, Steve is fortunate to have insurance that will cover the heart transplant itself and his anti-rejection medications. However, his coverage does not cover the entirety of his hospital stay, and there will be many other expenses associated with this journey.

As Steve waits for his new heart and begins his transplant journey, our family is asking for prayers, support, and, if you are able, financial donations. The costs of extended hospitalization, travel, lodging, meals, transportation, and other unexpected expenses can add up quickly, and we want to make sure that Steve can focus on what matters most. Healing and getting the chance to come home to his family.
