Standing with Steven: His Journey Through Brain Injury Recovery

A Life Changed in an Instant

On August 8, 2026, Steven’s life changed in an instant. After spending the morning laying sod alongside his dad, Steven was involved in a devastating motor vehicle accident while leaving his father’s neighborhood. He sustained a severe traumatic brain injury, including multiple brain bleeds and extensive damage to the nerve pathways in his brain.

What followed were weeks of critical care, medical procedures, and uncertainty. Throughout this difficult time, Steven’s family remained by his side, holding on to hope, praying for signs of recovery, and preparing for the long road ahead.

Today, Steven continues to face the challenges of recovery from a life-altering injury. With the support of his family, friends, and community, we are committed to helping him access the care and resources he needs to make the most of every opportunity for healing and progress.

The Man Behind the Journey

Steven has always been hardworking, creative, and fiercely independent. He is a dedicated employee of National Custom Hollow Metal Doors and Frames and a skilled carpenter and handyman who has worked both alongside his father and independently. If something needed fixing, Steven could usually figure out how to make it work. He even built his own headboard and dresser!

His creativity extends far beyond woodworking. Steven enjoys canvas painting, drawing, creating metal art, and designing elaborate Halloween decorations—one of which earned him recognition in his neighborhood. Known for his determination, stubborn streak, sense of humor, and appreciation for a good story, Steven has always approached life in his own unique way.

Music has also been one of Steven’s greatest passions. A self-taught guitarist since childhood, he gradually expanded his abilities to include several instruments, most recently finding a special interest in the drums. He enjoyed jamming with fellow musicians and performing with a band around the Little Rock area. Tragically, Steven was scheduled to audition for a new band the day after his accident—a painful reminder of how suddenly life can change.

When he isn’t making music or creating something with his hands, Steven enjoys experimenting with adventurous recipes, playing disc golf, bowling, and cheering on his beloved Green Bay Packers. His dedication to his favorite team runs so deep that he even named his dog G.B., short for Green Bay!

These are the passions, talents, and personal connections that make Steven who he is. They are also among the many things his family hopes he will have the opportunity to return to as his recovery progresses.

The Road to Recovery

Since the accident, Steven has faced significant challenges with movement, communication, and everyday activities. Following weeks of intensive medical care, he began specialized neurological rehabilitation, where he has demonstrated encouraging improvements in responsiveness and awareness.

Every sign of progress is meaningful. Each milestone brings renewed hope and reinforces the importance of continuing to provide Steven with the care and support he needs.

However, recovery from a severe traumatic brain injury is often a long and unpredictable process. Progress can take months or years, and ongoing rehabilitation and specialized care may be essential to improving function, developing greater independence, and adapting to the challenges that remain.

Our greatest hope is to give Steven every possible opportunity to continue making progress, regain abilities, and reconnect with the people, activities, and passions that have always brought meaning to his life.

Why Your Support Matters

Although Steven has health insurance, his coverage for specialized inpatient rehabilitation is limited to 60 days. His recovery needs may extend well beyond that period, creating significant financial challenges for Steven and his family.

Depending on his evolving needs and available coverage, ongoing expenses may include:

  • Additional specialized neurological rehabilitation

  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy

  • Medical equipment and recovery-related supplies

  • Accessible transportation for medical appointments and treatment

  • Home modifications to accommodate changing mobility and care needs

  • Caregiving assistance and other eligible medical expenses

Many of these costs may not be fully covered by insurance or other benefits. As Steven continues his recovery, having access to appropriate treatment, equipment, and support will be essential to helping him work toward greater independence and quality of life.

Through Help Hope Live, we are raising funds to help address Steven’s eligible medical and recovery-related expenses as his needs evolve. Every contribution will help support his journey and ease some of the financial burden associated with obtaining ongoing care.

Your generosity can help provide access to important resources and allow Steven and his family to focus more of their energy on what matters most: his recovery, his progress, and the possibilities that lie ahead.

Standing Together for Steven

Our family has been deeply moved by the prayers, kindness, and generosity shown by extended family, friends, coworkers, fellow musicians, neighbors, and even people who have never met Steven. The encouragement we have received has been a powerful reminder that we are not facing this journey alone.

If you are able, please consider making a donation through Help Hope Live in Steven’s honor. If a financial contribution isn’t possible, sharing his story with others is another meaningful way to help. Every donation, share, prayer, and message of encouragement makes a difference.

Steven has spent much of his life using his hands, talents, creativity, and determination to build things, solve problems, make music, and help others. Now, as he works to rebuild aspects of his own life, we want to surround him with the same care, encouragement, and support that he has so often given to others.

The road ahead may be long, and there are still many uncertainties. But with continued rehabilitation, access to needed resources, and the support of a caring community, we remain hopeful about what the future may hold for Steven.

Thank you for standing with Steven, supporting his recovery, and helping him face the challenges ahead. Your compassion and generosity mean more to our family than words can express.

Together, we stand with Steven—one day, one milestone, and one step forward at a time.

Family and friends of Steven Tallent are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a catastrophic injury. Steven has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.
