Every day, patients with advanced heart failure fight for their lives. For many, the only path forward is a heart transplant or a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) — therapies that can mean the difference between life and death.

But for too many patients, the battle doesn’t end in the hospital. The reality is that financial barriers can prevent them from receiving — or surviving — these life-saving therapies.

Why Your Support Matters

Even with insurance, the cost of care adds up quickly. Patients and their families often face overwhelming financial strain, and without help, they may fall through the cracks.

Transportation: Many patients need to travel multiple times a month for testing and follow-ups. Without money for gas, tolls, parking, or rideshares, they may miss critical appointments.

Medication Costs: Heart transplant and LVAD patients take many lifelong medications. Even modest co-pays can be unaffordable, leading to skipped doses and life-threatening complications.

Insurance Premiums: Some patients struggle to maintain their insurance coverage, risking sudden loss of access to care.

Temporary Housing: Patients who live far from the hospital may need to stay near the hospital for weeks or months after surgery. Housing costs are an impossible burden for many.

Home Medical Supplies: Blood pressure monitors, wound care supplies, and other equipment are essential for recovery but often not fully covered by insurance.

No one should lose their chance at survival because they can’t afford basic necessities like a ride, a prescription, or home medical supplies.

About This Fund

As a heart failure and transplant cardiologist, I have seen firsthand the incredible resilience of patients — and the heartbreaking reality of those who cannot access or maintain the care they need due to financial strain.

That is why I am partnering with Help Hope Live, a nationally respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to establish a dedicated charitable fund to support the heart transplant and LVAD patients I serve who need help bridging the gap between survival and hardship.
