We’ve helped thousands of people raise millions of dollars for Help Hope Live to cover essential medical expenses not covered by insurance, including medications, medical equipment, home care, accessibility needs, medical travel, and more.
Many of the individuals and families we serve go on to pay it forward, helping others facing similar challenges.

Our History
It all started in 1983…
What started in a single state and city grew into a national network of hope:
In 1983, Philadelphia transplant surgeon Dr. Jack Kolff and his wife, Patricia, a nurse, started Help Hope Live to help end-stage heart disease patients fundraise for the cost of transplants.
By 1995, we had expanded our mission to support fundraising for all other kinds of transplants, including organ, marrow, cells, and living donors.
In 2000, witnessing a spinal cord injury in our local community led us to expand our mission to catastrophic injury fundraising campaigns.
In 2004, we earned our first 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
In 2011, we changed our name to Help Hope Live to better reflect all the clients and diagnoses in our community—and our nonprofit’s purpose in their lives.
In 2016, we expanded our mission to include catastrophic illness campaigns.
In 2023, we earned a 99/100 score from Charity Navigator and received a 4-star rating from the platform for the 19th year in a row.
Today, our mission encompasses tens of thousands of medical fundraising campaigns across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and our impact continues to grow.
