$41,000+ Raised to Help Heather Griego After Life-Changing Accident
GOLDEN, Colo.—On Sunday, September 28, enjoy a jam-packed 18+ fundraiser at Gnarly’s Comedy Club in Golden featuring magic, comedy, and burlesque for a good cause. Funds raised will go to the nonprofit Help Hope Live in honor of Heather Griego, a Thornton woman who been living with paralysis since a horse injury.
Over $40,000 has already been raised in Heather’s honor to help with out-of-pocket medical costs, including a $1,200 boost from the last Gnarly’s fundraiser in August.
Fundraiser Details
When: Sunday, September 28. Doors at 6 p.m., show begins at 7 p.m.
Where: Gnarly’s Comedy Club at 1224 Washington Avenue, Suite 200, Golden, CO.
What: 18+ fundraiser with burlesque, comedy, magic, and more, including performances from Kiki Risque, Cori Steward, Charly Wonder, and friends.
Cause: 100% of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Help Hope Live in honor of Heather Griego. Heather is fundraising for a life-changing piece of paralysis rehabilitation equipment. Details below under “Heather’s Story.”

Heather’s Story
A single moment forever changed Heather Griego’s life. When she was 22 years old, a horse fell on Heather and paralyzed her from the torso down. She spent 4 months in the hospital and began to transition into a new life with paralysis.
Despite a grim prognosis from her medical team, Heather refused to give up. “I took it upon myself to keep exercising. After years of swimming, yoga, acupuncture, and weightlifting, I saw real changes take place in my body.”
Heather went from being able to lift 1 pound to lifting 20-plus pounds.
22 years after the injury that changed her life, Heather remains just as dedicated to her recovery as she was on Day 1—and her community has echoed that dedication.
Through a fundraising campaign with the trusted nonprofit Help Hope Live, over $40,000 has been raised in Heather’s honor. That includes $1,200 raised from the last Gnarly’s magic fundraiser event last month.
Fundraising is a key component of life with paralysis, as insurance does not cover what someone like Heather needs to heal, live, and thrive after injury.
Today, Heather has her sights set on a game-changing piece of equipment: a MyoCycle, which allows individuals like Heather to use electrical stimulation paired with exercise to continually strengthen mobility and independence from home.
Regular exercise with a MyoCycle will significantly impact Heather’s life, but despite the proven therapeutic benefits, the cost is not covered by insurance.
“I have worked so hard to regain my strength,” explained Heather. “I hope everyone can recognize my determination to walk and continue to aid in my recovery.”
Donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be administered by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
