Sophia’s Story
Eight-year-old Sophia Isler is living with more medical challenges than most people face in a lifetime. She was born with congenital cytomegalovirus or CMV, which led to epilepsy, cerebral palsy, cataracts, and issue with her kidneys, liver, and lungs.
“She’s had 10 surgeries in her 8 years of life,” explained mom Bianca Isler. “She’s spent multiple Thanksgivings, Christmases, birthdays, and holidays in the hospital.”
Despite all these medical challenges, Bianca says Sophia is “an amazing, strong, and capable 8-year-old.” She loves people, music, water, the color yellow, dinosaurs, and Disney princesses—and she loves to be outside: “The sounds of birds relaxes her.” She’s also a daredevil who loves haunted houses.
Sophia communicates using an iPad with head switches. She participates in regular therapy, and “she is stubborn and sassy when she doesn’t want to.”
Sophia’s family has had to take on an immense financial burden to keep her safe and happy. That’s why they started fundraising with the trusted nonprofit Help Hope Live. One of their big goals: to secure an accessible van so Sophia can keep adventuring. The cost is not covered by insurance.
Funds raised at the Sophia Strong Yard Sale will benefit the nonprofit Help Hope Live in Sophia’s honor. Tax-deductible donations can also be made online at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/24474/
Donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be managed by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
