I appreciate your support and prayers. Thank you for attending the Bingo, and thanks to all of you that made the Bingo possible. Your support has allowed me to purchase a van! Future fundraiser proceeds will be used for specialized equipment, aggressive therapy and possible stem cell therapy. My family is planning a 5K, I’ll let you know when a date and location has been finalized. To look at the pictures from the Bingo, go to “Jacob’s Photo Albums” and click on the 042013 Bingo photo.

Hello,
This is Jacob Andrews. I want to say a few words to you.
Thank you for looking at my web page, and a big thank you to all of you that have contributed to my cause. I appreciate your donations, as the funds will be used to help purchase a van. When the time is right, I will also be using the donations for stem cell therapy, a subject that I am most interested in. I would also like to participate in Project Walk.
I am currently learning some office skills like calculating and invoicing. I have a membership to Harmarville Rehab, and go there for additional rehab and therapy.
I would like to wish you all Happy Holidays! Just around the corner is another new year to be thankful for!

Dear Family and Friends,
Please take a moment to read about a wonderful young man, Jacob Andrews. On September 2, 2011, Jacob was severely injured in an automobile accident; a spinal cord injury has changed Jacob’s life as he is now quadriplegic. Jacob has no use of his legs and limited use of his arms. With the help and love of family and friend, months of rehab and therapy, this 27 year old Northgate High School graduate and former outstanding baseball and football player, is adjusting to living with limitations.
You may know members of Jacob’s family. Dad Joe Andrews is a hard working painter, an occupation chosen by his late father John, and brother Don; all members of Painters Union Local 6. Joe has also volunteered within the community, a volunteer coach for Northgate Baseball, a 10 year volunteer coach for girls slow pitch soft ball (BAGA), and a four year volunteer coach for the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Coaching the young people of the Miracle League has been one of the most rewarding experiences of Joe’s life.
Jacob’s mother Maria Andrews is a resident of Bellevue; a graduate of the Avonworth School District. Jesse, Jacob’s older brother, was a member of the US Air Force, and served in Afghanistan shortly after 9/11. Jesse now lives in Waldorf, Maryland and works in Washington DC. Jesse and Tania are proud parents of son Izaiah. Close family friend Ann Mack has been a strong support for the family, and has provided Jacob with never-ending care. Extended family consists of aunts and uncles and many cousins, all living in the Pittsburgh area. Many of the family members and friends are union members; pipe fitters, carpenters, laborers, pile drivers, sheet metals and sprinklers, just to name a few. Jacob is a member of Boilermakers Union # 154. Jacob is also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, his post is located in Avalon, PA, in the northern Pittsburgh area.
As Jacob is now mobile in his wheelchair, a reliable van with a lift or ramp is a critical need. Intensive therapy is needed to help him regain some additional function in his arms and hands. A service dog would be extremely helpful as well. All of these needs are very expensive, which is why a fundraising campaign in Jacob’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a 30 year old nonprofit organization that has been assisting catastrophic injury individuals for over ten years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. I am taking full advantage of this state of the art gym located on the North Side of Pittsburgh (see picture to the left of this post). I am maximizing every aspect of what the gym has to offer, working on my arm strength, increasing my stamina as much as possible, pushing myself more every workout. My goal is to gain more independence plus, in the future, to live on my own.
Thanks to all of you for supporting this cause. This walk will be the first of many steps towards my independence.
Sincerely, Jacob
