Family and friends of Amber Martinez are raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

Amber has chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because HelpHOPELive assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for donors. Donors can be sure that funds donated will be used only to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.

Because of circumstances beyond our control Amber's original volunteer donor could not donate. Amber waited as long as possible but this week had to start on dialysis and this will continue until a donor match is found. She has spent this week as an inpatient at Baylor Scott & White adjusting to her port access and dialysis. It hasn't been a fun experience but she is a strong and determined woman. Thanks for all of your calls and cards and prayers and love. We will keep you updated here and on Facebook.

Amber (age 36) was diagnosed two years ago with PKD (polycystic kidney disease). Both of her kidneys are affected by this disease and are starting to lose function. The medical team at Temple, Scott & White hospital has told us she requires a transplant, and her mother Susan has volunteered one of her kidneys so that her daughter can stay with us and see her children and new grandchild grow. Susan starts her screening process next week on 12-22-2015. Once all is well with the living donor a date will be set for the transplant. I will update when more information is available.
