Lisa Leon-Halweg is the 36-year-old mother of four great kids: Danny (16), Jaxon (4), and twins Keira and Theo (2). Lisa is in a military family and has lived all over the country. She touched many of our hearts in each of the places she’s lived. Now, she is in need of a kidney transplant. The operation will save her life, but leave her in financial hardship. The surgery is very necessary, yet very expensive.
Lisa developed polycystic kidney disease (PKD) in her late teens. She maintained a healthy lifestyle and had no serious complications until after she started her family. After her last pregnancy, that brought her (surprise!) twins, her health declined rapidly. She has been admitted to the hospital frequently and both kidneys will now be removed. She is completely dependent on dialysis to remove fluid from her body. Yet, even as she faces this challenge, she has maintained a positive attitude and a fearless determination, trying her best to still work out and run every day. Despite being hundreds of miles from any family, she takes excellent care of her own all alone. However, this transplant is something she can’t do by herself.
Even with insurance and Medicare, the transplant will be financially draining. Expenses will include co-pays, anti-rejection medications, lab fees, clinic visits, and deductibles. In addition, Lisa has to relocate to be closer to the hospital and transplant team. She will also have to pay for childcare during dialysis and recovery after the transplant. She needs our help to ease the burden of something she desperately needs to survive.
To help with the financial burden of Lisa Leon-Halweg’s uninsured expenses, she may apply to receive assistance from the HelpHOPELive Southwest Kidney Transplant Regional Restricted Fund. HelpHOPELive is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, the property of HelpHOPELive and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.

If we all work together we can make Lisa’s prospects for the future much brighter. Thank you in advance for your support.
