My name is Elle Cline, and with the help of my community, I can receive a much needed kidney transplant. For over 20 years, I’ve been struggling with kidney disease, and it has progressed to stage 5 with PKD (polycystic kidney disease). After my second child was born in 1994, I was diagnosed with renal failure, yet I remained an active and healthy mom to my children all the while — until now. Recently, I’ve been experiencing more side effects of the disease, but I’m trying to stay positive through it all. It is my hope to bypass dialysis and, instead, be blessed with a new kidney.
On July 18, 2015, I married my soulmate. Life sometimes feels like it’s beginning all over again for me, and I want to enjoy the next 40 years alongside my husband being full of energy, optimism, and the free spirit that I’ve always been. You may know me through my daughter, Jenna, who is a gymnast at Amarillo College . . . or my son, Alex, who is a rifleman in the Army . . . or maybe my son, Tony, who attended Tascosa High . . . or perhaps through my husband, Dave, who owns V & S Industrial Supply here in Amarillo. Maybe you remember me best as a driver for Bivins Memorial Nursing Home who took great care of your mom or dad when taking them to doctor appointments, when I was a helping hand and friend to your parents while they received skilled care at Amarillo Center for Skilled Care, or when I shared the sadness from losing your loved one because they had become family to me, too. God has blessed me with friendships and close bonds to several people that I’ve cared for, and now I’m faithfully asking for your help in battling my fight.
Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, I’m facing very high expenses that include travel to and from the hospital, relocating closer to the center for me and my caregiver for several months, co-pays, anti-rejection medication that I will need to take for the rest of my life, and any expenses a potential donor may incur.
To help with the financial burden of my uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Please, consider a contribution.

Your support is critical to the overall success of my battle to save my life. Please know that your contribution counts. Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity.
With sincere gratitude,
Elle Cline

I started dialysis on January 11, 2017, and it's been a very rough journey for me. Since the catheter placement in December 2016, I've been experiencing pain on the opposite side during the initial drains. Because of my small frame, I wasn't able to handle the Rx that my doctor gave me, so it was lowered by 400ml. After my first few days of dialysis, though, I began sleeping all night. I had gone for many months not knowing what it was like to be asleep until my clock alarm went off! My energy level is slowly increasing and I'm beginning to feel a little better each day. I still may be facing another surgery in the near future to have my catheter repositioned, but for now I am managing things pretty well. One thing that I am most proud of is that I've lost about 15 pounds of fluid!! All of the fluid retention has been from the waist up, and it was especially bad in my face. I look better, which in turn has made me feel better. I still have a long way to go, though!
I recently had a follow-up with my doctor, and my kidney function is down to 7% function. I am so devastated, but I know I'll somehow find the strength to get through this.
On a happier note, my bake sale over the weekend was a huge success! Every item that was donated had sold before quitting time! We were truly blessed by the outpouring of love and support from many people, whether through sales, monetary, donations, or words of encouragement. Thank you to everyone who donated their valuable time and effort to help my cause!
I had a 3 month checkup with my nephrologist last week, and I learned that my kidney function is down to 8% now. I'm still not having to receive dialysis just yet, and I'm very grateful for that. My doctor wants to see me every 2 months now, so I'll post another update when I have more news. Thank you for your support!
Great news! On April 4, 2016, I was officially put on the waiting list for a kidney transplant! I am so excited about this, but still very nervous because I don't have a living donor yet. My sister has stepped forward, but it will take some time to find out if she's compatible for me. I need a lot of prayers to help me get through this, as I'm so close to being on dialysis. That's something that I don't want to have to endure. Positive thoughts . . .
I am excited for my upcoming fundraiser, Amarillo's Largest Garage Sale! It will take place at the Civic Center on March 18-19, and I am accepting donations of any kind to help with my kidney transplant expenses. If you have anything that you'd like to donate, please get in touch with me, and my husband and I will gladly pick up your items. I will also have my t-shirts there to sell, and they are $20 each. Thank you so much for your support!
I had my medical evaluation yesterday, and it went great. Everyone I met with from Baylor All Saints is wonderful and very compassionate. The road to my next journey has now begun, and I'm thankful for an opportunity to have a new beginning. Thank you to everyone for your support!
1/19/16: The support and encouragement from everyone is truly appreciated. On January 28, the staff with the transplant center will be here to do my medical evaluation, and then I get to meet with my surgeon the following week. I am so excited! I have a few fundraising events that I'm working on, and I'll post the information as it becomes available.
