Having exhausted every avenue for treatment in the US, Scott has been in contact with the Clinica Ruiz, a medical clinic in Mexico, which has been a pioneer in treating PPMS and other diseases. The clinic, and its principal doctor Guillermo Ruiz, are well-renowned all over the world, and many patients with MS have seen significant results after undergoing a Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) procedure. HSCT has shown great potential for greatly reducing, and in many cases stopping completely the symptoms of MS. Scott has been accepted as a patient at Clinica Ruiz and is scheduled to begin the procedure on September 12, 2016.
This stem cell procedure is extremely expensive and not covered by insurance. The procedure itself will cost upwards of $54,000, but Scott will also have many other out-of-pocket expenses, including food and incidentals for the month he (and his care taker) will stay in Mexico, transportation costs, and maintaining his rent and utility payments on his home in Michigan. In total, we need to raise $80,000 to cover all of these expenses.
To help offset these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Scott’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive. To make a tax-deductible donation , click Donate Now.
I ask that you please help Scott out by donating anything that you can and/or sharing this with your friends and family. Than you in advance for your generosity and support.
Sincerely,
Dave Truran, Scott’s father
It has been a long hard road, and we are nearing the end. We had to refinance our home to come up with the funds to get Scott's HSCT (stem cell transplant). He is scheduled to leave on September 11th, and he is going.
We have been blessed by so many people who have helped us along the way. Thank you each and everyone of you.
We can not stop now, we still need help raising funds to help cover his post HSCT needs. Please don't stop trying to Help Scott Fight MS.
Well we just finished our yard sale Monday. Thanks to the wonderful people of Battle Creek, we made $3,409 Thank You. We are at $16, 283 of our $80,000 goal. WE have a long way to go and a short time to get there,
Scott fell a few weeks ago, he falls a lot. But this time he fell hard and badly bruised his ribs. He lost a week of work. It is becoming harder and harder for him to work, but he does not give up. He is the strongest person I have ever meet. He can barely walk, but still works 40 hours a week. He is incredible. I wish I had the drive he does.
Please continue to support Scot Fight MS. We can not let it win.
A quick update on our attempt to get Scott his HSCT (stem cell transplant). Our total raised has not changed since last week, $7,204.
We hope to make some progress on May 4th at the Funds for Friends dinner at Finley’s on Columbia. Please don’t forget to show the coupon, on your phone or a hard copy.

Scott had a chance to tell his story to the local news channel, (WWMT Channel 3) last night. I think they did a nice job communicating his story, please take a minute to watch it at; http://wwmt.com/news/local/veterans-family-asking-for-help-with-progressive-form-of-multiple-sclerosis
The Battle Creek Enquirer ran a nice story on Scott last week, sorry it took so long get update this. The article is located at http://www.battlecreekenquirer.com/story/news/local/2016/02/28/marine-fights-ms-but-needs-help/80621166/
Everyone in Scott's family would like to thank you all for you prayers, kind words, and everything else you have done for him.
I would like to thank everyone for their interest so far, we are ready to celebrate our first $1,000 raised. Just as a reminder we need $55,000 to pay for the actual stem cell procedure by 12 July.
We are still a long way from our total goal of $80,000, the total goal will help Scott pay for everything not covered during the HSCT procedure, like travel, food, some medical costs, and to help with his bills when he gets home. He will be unable to work for up to 6 months while his immune system recovers from the procedure.
Again thank you all. I will try and update you weekly.
I am going through the early stages of PPMS and this disease is a monster that doesn't stop. Having an untreatable disease that is taking over your body is un imaginable until it happens to you. You are a true soldier and I hope you get the money soon to stop the progression in its tracts. I am battling myself every min and its kicking my butt. If you have a moment call me @480-685-5276 I am in Phoenix, Az.
